Hey y'all,
Thanks, everyone, for your help with clipmapping. Turns out that
for LW, the grayscale pic is the way to go.
Must confess to a bit of disappointment. The clipmap texture in
Imagine is so handy, without these color limitations. It simply clips
out everything with color 0. Makes much more sense to me than this
'everything above 50% luminosity' business.
You can make picket fences, fern leaves, and even more apparently
3d effects in your scenes, without having to actually model these
objects. Maybe there's a workaround in LW, but I haven't figured it out
yet.
I saw reference in the manual to clip-level adjustments in the
Switcher. Maybe you can pick an EXACT value for the clip--but as I'm
running Lightwave ala Lightrave (boo, hiss), there's no option for this
in my setup.
